Antwerp Springs Water Source
February 2, 2010, 2:00pm - BOIL WATER Notice remains in effect for residents east of Murphy Road and Highway 6
The Regional District of North Okanagan – Greater Vernon Water [GVW], the District of Coldstream [DoC] and the Interior Health Authority [IHA] advise the “Boil Water Notice” remains in effect for those residents living east of Murphy Road and Highway 6. In consultation with IHA, a Water Quality Action Plan has been developed for customers east of Murphy Road.
As of January 22, 2010, the utility is supplying Duteau Creek water to all of the residents that were on the Antwerp Springs water source. The Action Plan sets out an enhanced disinfection process for the reservoirs and the water system
Hand delivered notices sent to each home contained instructions for household flushing procedures. If customers have not followed these instructions, they should employ them prior to any household water use.
Since January 15th GVW and the DoC have taken over 400 bacterial samples from the affected water service area. All of these samples have been clear of bacterial contamination. This strongly indicates the actions taken immediately after the event dealt with the contamination in the distribution system.
GVW and DoC continue to work on the Water Quality Action Plan with IHA to ensure the safety of the drinking water. For the week of February 1st sampling continues throughout the water distribution system and at a representative sampling of households and businesses east of Murphy Road. The results of these samples will assist in downgrading the Boil Water Notice to a Water Quality Advisory. Customers will be informed when this occurs.
If you have any questions, please contact Greater Vernon Water at 250-550-3700. Staff will be available for inquires from 8:00 am until 4:30 p.m Monday through Friday.
For residents west of Murphy Road at Highway 6, the “Water Quality Advisory” (325Kb PDF) Notice remains in effect.
